Presentation of a new cargo locomotive for Azerbaijan held in Astana

June 27, Fineko/abc.az. Presentation of the first freight locomotive Prima T8 (AZ8A) produced by Alstom Transportation S. A. company for Azerbaijan was held at the Electric Locomotive Assembly Factory (ELAF), located in special economic zone ‘Astana’ (Kazakhstan) on 25 June.

The presentation was attended by representatives of railway companies of Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan, Alstom Transportation S. A., the Azerbaijani and Kazakh press.

The participants of the event were shown a footage about Alstom Transportation S. A. activity. Bernard Pei, managing director of the Western & Central Asia cluster of Alstom, informed the audience about the company in detail.

In turn, ELAF general director Julien Nodi told the participants about the activities of the enterprise.

Speaking at the presentation, senior vice president for Middle East & Africa Didier Pfleger told the audience about the benefits of locomotive Prima T8 (AZ8A). Then the locomotive was demonstrated to the participants of the event.

Excursions were also organized for the event participants to the Museum of international exhibition EXPO-2017 and the National Museum of Kazakhstan.

Prima T8 (AZ8A) is one of the most powerful locomotives in the world, which was produced in Kazakhstan and will be operated on the railway tracks of Azerbaijan. The locomotive is the leader among highly efficient traction machines on electrified railway tracks, providing comfort and maximum safety of long-distance cargo transportation, capable of carrying cargo of up to 9000 tons and reaching speed of up to 120 km/h.

In accord with the agreement from 12 May 2014 between France’s Alstom Transportation S. A. and Azerbaijan Railways (ADY) the latter plans to purchase 50 AC locomotives produced by Alstom, 40 of which will be used for freight and 10 ones for passenger transportation.
