July 24, Fineko/abc.az. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan has stated that there are no Azerbaijani citizens of the country among the victims of forest fires in Greece.

The Ministry reports that the Azerbaijani Embassy in Greece is in constant contact with the Greek authorities.

"According to our embassy in Greece, there are not Azerbaijani citizens among those killed and injured by forest fires," the Ministry said in a statement.

Previously it was reported about 50 people were killed and another 100 ones were burned and injured in forest fires in Greece. Rescuers do not rule out that the number of victims may increase. Currently firefighters can not enter the flame-covered areas, where there may also be dead and injured.

Greece intends to apply to the European Union for help in extinguishing forest fires. The decision was made after the authorities of the Greek capital announced their intention to introduce an emergency regime in connection with fire threat for Athens. Some residents of the suburbs of Athens have already been evacuated.
