October 3, Fineko/abc.az. The Supervisory Board of Deutsche Lufthansa AG has approved purchase of 27 aircrafts for short- and medium-range flights.

The Company reports that options for purchase of 24 Airbus A320neo and 3 Airbus A321neo will be transferred to the status of firm orders.

"This decision was aviation group’s reaction to the market development and revenue growth and will allow Lufthansa Group to provide the necessary size of the air fleet for the coming years. The total value of the orders placed is about $3 bn in accord with the announced prices. Now the total number of ordered Airbus A320neo and A321neo in the air fleet of Lufthansa Group will reach 149 liners, while 13 of them have already been put into operation," the Company said.

The supply of A320neo and A321neo ("neo" – abbreviation for "New Engine Option", that is, "new engine version") is scheduled for 2023 and 2024. 10 out of the 27 ordered aircrafts are for SWISS, the remaining liners will be distributed among the various Lufthansa Group air companies. Some of the aircrafts will be equipped with engine Pratt & Whitney (PW1100G), while others will be equipped with engine CFM International of company LEAP-1A. This means that both of these engines will be used in approximately equal proportions in Neo family aircrafts, owned by Lufthansa Group.
