Azerbaijan imports main share of cigarette re-export of Georgia

January 22, Fineko/abc.az. Georgia exported abroad cigarettes worth $148.8 million in 2018 that is by 3.5 times more than in 2017.

The National Statistics Agency of Georgia (Sakstat) reports that almost the entire exported output are re-export, i.e. it is export of products that are not produced in Georgia, but was imported in the country.

"Cigarettes from Georgia travel mainly to Azerbaijan. Last year this country exported cigarettes for $98 million to Azerbaijan. In 2018 Georgia also increased import of cigarettes. It reached $186 million that is by 82% more versus 2017," the Agency says in a statement.

Automobiles are the main article of re-export. Last year, Georgia imported cigarettes for $598 million (growth of 25% compared to last year), and its export totaled $409 million (74%).
