Kazakhstan`s parliament ratifies Caspian Status Convention

January 31, Fineko/abc.az. The MPs of the Senate (Upper House) of the parliament of Kazakhstan ratified the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea during the plenary session on 31 January.

The MPs of the Mazhilis (Lower Chamber) of the Kazakh parliament approved the ratification of the Convention at the end of December 2018. Now the document is sent for signature to the President of Kazakhstan.

The Convention was signed at the Aktau meeting of the heads of Russia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Iran on 12 August 2018. The document makes it possible to define and regulate the rights and obligations of the parties with regard to the use of the Caspian Sea, including its waters, seabed, subsoil, natural resources and airspace above it.
