AZAL declines to buy Boeing-737 MAX

11:37 - 28.03.2019

March 28, Fineko/abc.az. Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) no longer wants to purchase air vessels Boeing-737 MAX.

A source in AZAL says that such a decision was made for the purpose of security, after the crash of the plane of Ethiopian Airlines, which killed 157 people.

AZAL has not yet commented this statement officially.

Previously, the use of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft of 8th and 9th series was banned and deliveries of machines under construction were frozen. The manufacturer took such a step after the crash of the Ethiopian Airlines plane. The EU, the U.S. and Russia later closed the skies over their territories for their flights.

AZAL has one of the youngest aircraft fleets. The airline has a long history of cooperation with Boeing Corporation and is currently operating Boeing 787 Dreamliner, Boeing 767 and Boeing 757. Back in 2017, the Company announced plans to replenish its air fleet with modern Boeing-737 MAX vessels.

Azerbaijan Airlines also successfully continues to operate planes Airbus 340, Airbus 320, Airbus 319 and Embraer 190.
