When taxes rise, we have to reduce ready projects - Carlsberg Azerbaijan CEO

12:28 - 18.12.2019

December 18, Fineko/abc.az. Some time ago, the press reported that largest beer producer Carlsberg Azerbaijan was going to leave Azerbaijan.

The reason was the increase in excise taxes in Azerbaijan. Subsequently, it became known that the claims are not justified and overstated.

Carlsberg Azerbaijan’s CEO Vyacheslav Maltsev in his exclusive statement for portal ABC.AZ once again touched upon this issue and stated that even if there is an increase in taxes on excise goods in the future, the company will not be concerned.

He points out that the company he represents constantly works in the format of dialogue with governments: "We believe in dialogue with governments as we have a direct and open dialogue with governments. Naturally, the regulator is the state and the Ministry of Taxes. We do not take any direct steps in this matter. We believe that even if there is any growth, it will relate not only us but also other products. It will also touch imported products that will also help us. We will maintain the current balance at the technical level and therefore, on the whole, we look at the future very positively. Currently, our company has great hopes for the Azerbaijani market as a whole. What is the most important thing for us? For us, the chief thing is the right competition in the country. We see that as the years go by we are coming to this. Other issues in Azerbaijan can be settled. We can adapt our business to this place, etc. But the main thing for us in the market is a dialogue with the state. Since we are a transparent taxpayer and company, all of the above-said is the most important matter for us," Maltsev said.

Maltsev does not exclude that, in addition to all this, some projects may be reduced if the tax interests grow: "Of course, if taxes increase, we’ll have to reduce the ready projects as well. Projects are replaced by other projects or costs by other expenses. I'm talking about business. Business adapts to these questions. That is, the fact is that, of course, we want to stay in the Azerbaijani market and will continue developing business."
