Banking expert: Bank Standard`s debt is now AZN 1.2 bn

February 18, Fineko/abc.az. The debt of liquidated Bank Standard still remains – the bank has owed more than AZN 150 million to citizens and about AZN 500 million to companies.

ABC.AZ reports that the statement was made by banking expert Ekrem Hasanov.

According to the expert, along with the above-mentioned debts, Bank Standard also owed to the governmental bodies.

Hasanov noted that currently Bank’s total debt amounts to AZN 1.2 bn. Mentioning that last autumn the Deposit Insurance Fund applied to the Baku Court of Appeal for the return of deposits to its account in the amount of up to $10,000 or AZN 17,000, believes that this approach is unfair: "If someone's deposit was 17,000 and 1 gapik or 10,000 and 1 cent, they should return the money. For example, I know one person who has $10,200 left in the bank, and this sum was not returned to him on the pretext that this amount is large.

They did this so that small depositors could leave quietly and become freer, while other large depositors had certain expectations and activity. Money can only be returned by converting Bank Standard’s assets by the Deposit Insurance Fund, i.e. by selling Bank’s movable and immovable property through auction. But the Fund does not do that and has not yet sold any properties of Bank Standard. On the contrary, it spends more than AZN 10,000 a month to protect this property."
