August 14, Fineko/abc.az. A number of officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan have been arrested due to the fact that Ministry’s some officials, abusing their powers, committed acts causing substantial damage to legally protected interests of the state. Among the arrested are MFA Tender Committee’s chairman Ferhad Mollazade, Economic Department’s chief manager Salim Alizadeh and the head of the Legal-Consular Office at the Consular Depatment Nurupasha Abdullayev. They were charged with abuse of office, taking bribes and embezzling large amounts of money, and a preventive measure was taken in the form of detention based on court decisions.

ABC.AZ reports with reference to the State Security Service that during the financial audits, there were reasonable suspicions that the Azerbaijani Ambassador to Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina Eldar Hasanov spent significant budget funds for other purposes and committed other offenses. As part of the investigation, Hasanov was detained as a suspect.

At present, operational and investigative measures o the criminal case are ongoing. The public will be further informed about this.
