Turkey backs Sweden and Finland joining NATO

June 29, Fineko/abc.az. Turkey confirms its commitment to NATO's open door policy and agrees to support the invitation of Finland and Sweden to become NATO members at the Madrid summit of the North Atlantic Alliance.

ABC.AZ reports with reference to the foreign media that this is stated in a trilateral memorandum signed following a meeting in Madrid with the participation of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Finnish President Sauli Niinisto, Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

According to the document, Sweden and Finland undertake to cooperate fully with Turkey in the fight against the PKK terrorist organization and refuse to support its Syrian offshoot PYD/YPG, as well as the FETÖ terrorist organization.

The two Scandinavian countries also undertake to prevent the activities of the PKK and all other terrorist organizations and persons associated with them on their territory.
