September 12, Fineco/abc.az. Bulgaria intends to increase supplies through the Southern Gas Corridor and annually purchase up to 2 bn cu m of gas from Azerbaijan, ABC AZ reports, citing Bulgarian Economy & Industry Nikola Stoyanov.

"They offered us, as a traditional partner, to provide an additional share of gas for the future expansion of the Southern Gas Corridor. This means that we will be able to buy 2 bn cu m of gas annually under a long-term contract. A fixed-term contract will be signed with Azerbaijan, which will account for about 60% of our demand. Experts of the Ministry of Energy will continue negotiations with Azerbaijan on prices, quantity, conditions of gas supply and other technical parameters. But it is important for us now to declare these values," the minister said.

Stoyanov added that the volume of supplies can be increased within 3-4 years.

The minister confirmed that from 1 October, after the completion of the construction of the Bulgaria-Greece interconnector and obtaining a permit for its operation, Bulgaria will purchase 1 bn cu m of Azerbaijani gas annually.
