Unopened first-generation iPhone sold at auction for $39,340

October 17, Fineko/abc.az. The unopened iPhone smartphone, released in 2007, was sold at auction on 16 October for $39,340, ABC.AZ reports, referring to the website of auction house LCG Auctions.

"The sealed copy of the first generation is in excellent condition. The surface and corners of the packaging are almost flawless, the factory seal is not touched. <...> A brand new smartphone has not been activated. Collectors and investors will find it difficult to find a sample in a more perfect condition," follows from the description of the lot.

It is also emphasized that the iPhone, first introduced by Steve Jobs on January 9, 2007, became "one of the most important and widespread inventions of our time," forever changing the smartphone industry.

News portal Business Insider says that in 2007 the model of the first iPhone cost $599. According to the Bureau of Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor, the smartphone sold at auction, adjusted for inflation, has risen in price almost 45-fold over the years.
