Kazakhstan begins exporting uranium through Azerbaijan

17:46 - 22.12.2022

December 22, Fineko/abc.az. Kazakhstan has started exporting uranium, which it sells to Western countries, through Azerbaijan.

ABC.AZ reports that national atomic company Kazatomprom informs about the physical delivery of natural uranium through the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TMTM).

Kazatomprom chose this route back in 2018 in order to get ahead of the risks associated with Russia.

The company says that the sanctions imposed on Russia due to the existence of the Trans-Caspian route will not affect the export of uranium from Kazakhstan.

The uranium was sent to the port of Poti through Azerbaijan and Georgia, and from there it was delivered by sea to Canada.

Until now, Kazakhstan's uranium has been supplied to world markets through Russia, but now this route is no longer suitable for export due to sanctions.
