Elon Musk launches satellites over Iran

12:52 - 27.12.2022

December 27, Fineko/abc.az. The head of SpaceX, Elon Musk, said that now his space company has about 100 active Starlink communications satellites over the territory of Iran.

ABC.AZ reports that he announced plans to activate the service over this Middle Eastern country in the fall of 2022.

"We’re already getting close to having 100 Starlink satellites active in Iran at once," the businessman emphasized.

According to the agency, Musk's plans include not only the desire to develop an additional market, but also political motives.

This September, the head of SpaceX assured that Starlink is necessary for Iran "to promote Internet freedom and the free flow of information". Musk added that he asked the US authorities to make an exception to the sanctions to ensure the operation of Starlink in Iran.

There is no information yet about whether the company has terminals inside the country and how they plan to be delivered to Iran. There are no terminals in the official sale, and Iran itself has been under severe US sanctions for many decades.
