March 10, Fineko/abc.az. In the livestock sector affected by the earthquake, meat prices have increased by 30% over the past month due to “increased costs” in the run-up to Ramadan. In addition, there are concerns that this will lead to an increase in the prevalence of foot-and-mouth disease. It was noted that the Ministry of Agriculture has taken measures regarding imports to stabilize prices.

ABC.AZ reports that the price of red meat increased by 30% in a month. According to the National Red Meat Council, in some regions the price of beef was 180 liras (16.15 manats), on average 175 liras (15.75 manats). Minced meat costs about 300 liras (26.91 manats) from butchers.

While the reason for the increase in meat is explained by the closure of animal markets because of foot-and-mouth disease observed in some provinces, the authorities also stated that the disease does not yet pose a problem that can affect prices.
