147 illegal fish farms liquidated in Azerbaijan

June 21, Fineko/abc.az. The State Committee on Property Issues of Azerbaijan has developed a fish lake database.

The Committee reports that 529 such lakes have been included in the database.

"During the monitoring the Committee revealed facts of illegal creation of artificial lakes for fisheries on agricultural land. The creation of such lakes not only damages the fruitful layer of land plots, but also leads to an increase in the level of groundwater and agricultural land plots are subject to salinization," the SCPI said.

Following the monitoring, 147 such artificial lakes were liquidated and more than 100 hectares of land were returned to the previous level of favorability. Currently, there are 382 natural and artificial lakes in the country, most of which are located on agricultural land, including winter pastures of the State Land Fund. Of them, 33 are natural and 349 are artificial lakes.

"Protocols were drawn up on 188 revealed facts of illegal fish lakes and penalties for 85,000 manats were applied. Materials on 25 illegal seizure of agricultural land plots were transferred to law enforcement agencies for consideration. Investigation on the materials concerning illegal creation of 45 lakes is still underway," the Committee said.

Artificial lakes are created mainly in the Neftchala, Salyan, Bilasuvar, Sabirabad districts.
