Chairman of State Duma: Russia and Azerbaijan are strategic partners

June 25, Fineko/abc.az.  “Russia and Azerbaijan are strategic partners,” said chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin as he met with Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Parliament Ogtay Asadov.

Volodin hailed the successful development of relations between the two countries. He pointed out the expansion of Azerbaijan-Russia economic cooperation, as well as an increase in the number of Russian tourists visiting Azerbaijan.

Volodin noted that the successful development of interparliamentary ties contributes to bringing the two countries’ peoples closer to each other.

The chairman of the State Duma noted that Russia supports peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Speaker Asadov expressed his confidence that the visit will contribute to expanding intergovernmental and interparliamentary relations between Azerbaijan and Russia. He pointed out that the official reciprocal visits and meetings of the two countries’ presidents are of particular importance in developing bilateral ties.

Asadov hailed the excellent level of political dialogue and the bilateral relations between the two countries in trade, economic, and cultural and humanitarian fields. He described Russia as one of the major trade partners of Azerbaijan.

Pointing to the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the speaker noted that the OSCE Minsk Group has made no progress on the issue. He thanked the government of Russia for its attention to the settlement of the dispute. “We believe that President Vladimir Putin will do his utmost for the settlement of the conflict. We stand for the peaceful resolution of the problem,” he said.
