May 17, Fineko/abc.az. In Azerbaijan, 60% of the poor population is living in rural areas.

ABC.AZ reports that World Bank’s Manager for Azerbaijan Sarah Michael stated about this at Baku conference GSMA Mobile 360 Eurasia 2023.

She added that implementation of smart village projects in Azerbaijan will lead to reduction of poverty level in the country.

"The WB supports these projects implemented by Azerbaijan. Similar projects are widespread in Asia. The use of technology in rural areas reduces poverty by about 50%. Poorer people living in rural areas are more likely to suffer from natural disasters and crises. We are working with both the government and the private sector in this direction. Azerbaijan has high level of human capital potential. We are ready to help in its development," she emphasized.
