Azerbaijan-Lithuania Bilateral Cooperation Commission held 5th meeting

The 5th meeting of the Azerbaijani-Lithuanian Intergovernmental Commission on Bilateral Cooperation has been conducted in Vilnius, Lithuania.

The Ministry of Taxes reports that the Commission is co-chaired by Tax Minister Fazil Mammadov and Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius on behalf of Azerbaijan and Lithuania respectively.

"Azerbaijan is an important economic partner of Lithuania in South Caucasus and there is great potential for the development of Azerbaijani-Lithuanian economic relations, in particular in the field of oil and gas, transport, food and other industries. Lithuania can also play a role of bridge for promotion of economic relations between Azerbaijan and the European Union and help in strengthening those ties," Mr. Linkevičius said.

In turn, Tax Minister Mammadov stated that both states’ cooperation does not conform to the real potential, and mobilization of this potential is one of the main directions of work of the Intergovernmental Commission.

"During the meeting the sides covered the prospects of cooperation in the sphere of legal base drafting, energy, agriculture and ecology, youth and sports, culture and tourism, science and education, transport, ICT, customs and health, matters of cooperation between the regions of Azerbaijan and Lithuania," the Ministry informed.

At the end of the meeting the parties signed the Final Protocol of the 5th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission, according to which the sides agreed on exchange of information about exhibitions, conferences and business forums as well as on the encouraging the participation of Lithuanian specialized companies as investors in industrial parks in Azerbaijan, including the Sumgait Chemical Industrial Park. Also, during the meeting the Commission signed the agreement on simplification of visa regime for holders of official passports and the agreement on exchange of information & mutual administrative assistance between the Ministry of Taxes of Azerbaijan and the State Tax Inspectorate of Lithuania.
