July 10, Fineko/abc.az. Railway projects are of great importance among the work done in Azerbaijan.

Addressing to the Cabinet’s meeting dedicated to the results of socio-economic development in the 1st half of 2018 and the upcoming tasks, the country’s leader stated that the project of construction of railway line Baku-Gabala is being implemented.

"This will be great support for the development of domestic tourism. By the end of the year it is planned to launch fast train Baku-Ganja on the line and citizens will prefer to travel from Baku to Ganja by comfortable trains. Passenger trains of the most advanced companies are also purchased. The project of construction of the suburban railway line is successfully implemented," the head of state said.

He added that by commissioning Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line, it was put into operation East-West corridor, and the beginning of operation of Alat Port, became the last link in this chain.

"We are currently working over other projects. The project of modernization of Baku-Yalama railway line is being implemented. Since next year we should start modernising the Baku-Astara road. Thus, we’ll further accelerate realization of transport corridor North-South. However, now there is a railway line, goods are transported, but the speed is low. In this direction, work will be done to increase the speed," Aliyev said.

The head of state pointed out that if to take into account that in the future volume of cargo transportation through the territory of Azerbaijan will increase, then production of wagons and containers should find a solution in Azerbaijan.

"I appeal to entrepreneurs to pay attention to this sphere, as it will be very profitable. Azerbaijan will be its main market. Because container carriages will increase few-fold. And we're running out of containers. In order to import goods on our own initiative, we must have a container fleet. So, the production of containers is a very important question for both entrepreneurs and the state," President Aliyev stressed.
