First Baku-Tbilisi-Kars train has arrived in Turkey

The first train, departed from Kazakhstan on railway line Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) has arrived in Kars, Turkey.

During the train meeting ceremony Veisi Kurt, CEO of TCDD Taşımacılık AŞ (national railway carrier of Turkey), told journalists that the freight train covered distance of 856 km for 40 hours.

"From Kars the train has departed to its final destination – the city of Mersin that will also take 40 hours. The distance between the cities is 1,258 km," Kurt said.

He added that the train is carrying 30 containers. The train will run 4,700 km from Kazakhstan to Mersin.

The CEO says that cargo carriages via BTK will exceed 17 million tons.
