Afghanistan to send first cargo to Europe via Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway in October

August 29, Fineko/abc.az. Afghanistan is preparing to start deliveries of its goods to Europe through transport route Lapis Lazuli.

A source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan told to portal 1tvnews.af that the first shipment will depart in the next six weeks.

"The agreement on the execution plan with the countries participating in the transport project will be signed in the next two weeks," the Ministry’s source said.

The transport route begins in Aqina and Turghundi ports in the Afghan provinces of Faryab and Herat and crosses Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey. It involves road, rail, and maritime transport.

Cargo is delivered to Europe through the territories of these countries. The project covers rail, road and sea transport.
