Azerbaijani President received Japanese FM

September 5, Fineko/abc.az. President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan has received a delegation led by Taro Kono, the Japanese Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The President’s website says that during the meeting Mr. Kono stated that Japan is ready to expand cooperation with Azerbaijan in the energy sphere.

"He stressed that Japan’s Inpex Corp. and ITOCHU Oil are the participants of the project on development of oilfield block Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli and shareholders of oil pipeline Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan," the website says.

The FM stressed Japan's interest in opening of direct flights with Azerbaijan that will expand cooperation in the field of tourism.

In his turn, the Azerbaijani leader pointed out that Japanese companies are active contractors and investors in Azerbaijan. He added that Azerbaijan is interested in expanding contacts between both countries’ business circles.

The country’s president also spoke about an increase in the number of tourists visiting Azerbaijan and availability of high-quality tourism infrastructure in his country.

The sides also focused on substantial potential for expansion of trade and economic links, including in the field of agriculture, tourism, investment and other areas.
