Transport sphere to be one of main directions of Belarus-Azerbaijan cooperation


November 19, Fineko/abc.az. The transport sector is going to be one of the main areas of cooperation with Belarus.

Belsrus’ news agency BelTA informs that in the course of talks with his Belorusian counterpart in extended format Azerbaijani leader Ilham Aliyev stated that one of the main directions of future cooperation will be cooperation in the transport sector.

"You’ve mentioned the North-South transport corridor. Azerbaijan has completed all the work relating to the functioning of this corridor on its territory. Now we are engaged in the questions of further modernization of our transport infrastructure, which is already capable of transporting substantial volumes of cargo," President Aliyev said.

He pointed out that Azerbaijan is an active participant of East-West transport corridor. According to the Azerbaijani leader, coordination of efforts on these two routes will create completely new conditions for cooperation, lead to the opening of tens of thousands of new jobs, increase much the flow of cargo between the two countries.

In his turn, President Alexander Lukashenko of Belarus said that his country offers its participation in infrastructure projects that are implemented in the territory of Azerbaijan.

"We’re ready to participate in infrastructure projects in Azerbaijan: construction of new railways, sea ports, and logistics centers," the head of the Belarusian state said.
