European Central Bank leaves base rate at zero

December 13, Fineko/abc.az. At its Thursday`s meeting the Board of Governors of the European Central Bank (ECB) kept the base interest rate at a record low level of 0% and confirmed the end of the asset purchase program until the end of this year.

The Bank reports that the deposit rate has been kept at the level of minus 0.4%, and the margin rate has remained at the level of 0.25%. Thus, the decisions of the regulator coincided with the forecasts of experts.

The ECB expects that rates will remain at current levels at least until the end of summer 2019.

Since this October the regulator has reduced the rate of asset repurchase to 15 bn euro from 30 bn euro a month. The program will be completed in December 2018.
