Flow of tourists to Azerbaijan grew by 6% in 2018

January 17, Fineko/abc.az. Last December the number of foreign citizens coming to Azerbaijan increased by 1% versus December 2017.

The State Travel Agency reports that as a whole, in 2018 the flow of foreign citizens to the country grew by 6% or 153,000 people up to 2.8 million tourists.

"Two-thirds of foreigners were citizens of Russia, Georgia and the Middle East. The main flow accounts for citizens of Georgia, the Middle East and Asia, and their share on the tourism market increased by 1%, 2% and 2% respectively. The share of Russian and Turkish citizens reduced by 1%, and Iranians by 5%," the Agency said.

The largest increase in the flow is observed among the citizens of the Middle East and Asia – 35% and 55%. In particular, the flow from Saudi Arabia increased by 120% up to 41,000, from Israel by 161% up to 40,000, and Kuwait by 81% up to 30,000 people. Among the Asian countries, the flow increased from Pakistan by 135% up to 73,000 people and India by 175% up to 39,000 people.
