Azerbaijani and Swiss heads assess results of their states’ favorable economic cooperation

January 24, Fineko/abc.az. President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and President Uli Maurer of the Swiss Confederation discussed successful development of bilateral relationships in Davos.

President Aliyev told about work Azerbaijan has conducted in the infrastructure sector and stressed that his country has become a very important transit state in international carriages. He added that in particular, transportation of goods by rail from Asia to Europe through the territory of Azerbaijan has already begun. President Aliyev said that trains produced in Switzerland contribute to the renewal and development of the railway in Azerbaijan.

"We’re interested in attracting more Swiss companies to the economic development of our country as investors, and I’m confident that Swiss companies will continue cooperating actively with Azerbaijan," the head of state emphasized.

During the conversation the sides also underlined significance of expanding mutual trade. The questions of Swiss companies’ participation in generation of alternative energy in Azerbaijan were touched upon. They parties also focused on the importance of SOCAR’s investments in Switzerland from angle of expansion of partnership and the large role of construction of a cement plant in Azerbaijan by Holcim in laying the foundation for bilateral economic cooperation. The head of state stressed the role of the cement plant project in Azerbajan’s economic growth.

In his turn, President Maurer informed that Switzerland is also interested in concrete measures aimed at broadening economic cooperation with Azerbaijan. He added that Swiss businessmen are very satisfied with favorable conditions Azerbaijan created for business, economic growth and business opportunities. Opening of the flight between Azerbaijan and Switzerland is also of great importance for widening cooperation between the two countries.
