Azerbaijan’s President: Country needs to build almond and walnut processing factories

January 30, Fineko/abc.az. When delivering speech at the conference on the State Program of Socio-Economic Development of the Regions, President Ilham Aliyev stated that much attention has been paid to walnut growing lately. 

"In 2016, our country’s had 40,000 hectares of nut orchards. Today, their area has reached 75,000 ha, and another 9,000 ha of gardens will be planted this year. Thus, we’ll grow 84,000 ha of nuts, volume of exports of nuts will double, and farmers will receive twice as much money. Currently, 20,000 people work in nut farming," the president said.
Then he added that it is certainly needed to consider the question of construction of factories on processing of almonds and walnuts in Azerbaijan. At the same time, olive production, that is traditional for Baku and Absheron district, as well as for other districts is rapidly developing. Planting of new olive orchards is gradually expanding.”
