January 31, Fineko/abc.az. Baku Metro Company is creating conditions for movement of people with special needs.

The Company reports that it is no secret that people with disabilities find it difficult to move in the subway.

"In this regard, in compliance with the BMC chair’s relevant order a special workgroup was established, research and discussion organized, and use of advanced world technologies in this field studied. In particular, it became known about the possibility of movement of passengers using wheelchairs with help of employees and special equipment," the report said.

Persons in wheelchairs will declare in advance their desire to use the services of the metro. A special metro worker will meet a passenger at the entrance, help go down to the station, travel with him to the desired station and help get off of the metro train.

"Although structural changes at metro stations are not provided at primary stage, but work is already underway on the preparation of special places for wheelchair passengers. The first samples of such special places to be located in the first car of the train, without any changes in the design of the car, have already been installed. In the future, such places will be installed in all the first cars of the trains," BMC said in a statement.

Regarding the pre-warning, the Baku Metro has already developed and posted a special program on its official website, through which passengers will be able to apply on the occasion. A special mobile application is also being developed. Special wheelchairs corresponding to the infrastructure of the Baku Metro have already been tested.

"The service will be launched in the near future," BMC said.
