Azerbaijan asks a WB loan for a rail project from Baku to Astara

March 15, Fineko/abc.az. Azerbaijan Railways (ADY) continues reconstruction and modernization of railway lines within the framework of construction of transport corridor North-South.

ASY chairman of board Javid Gurbanov has stated that work is underway to start the construction of a 243 km long section from Baku to the city of Astara.

"We’ve already applied to the World Bank for a loan for the full reconstruction and modernization of the railroad, its expansion from one to two lanes, electronization and updating of communication and alarm systems," Gurbanov said.

The ADY chair did not disclose the amount of the requested loan.
