Renault considers a possibility of merger with Fiat Chrysler

March 27, Fineko/abc.az. France’s carmaker Renault intends to resume negotiations with Japan’s Nissan about the merger in the next 12 months, and then plans to merge with another car manufacturer, most likely with Italian-American Fiat Chrysler.

The news was written by newspaper Financial Times, citing sources.

Carlos Ghosn, the former head of alliance Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi, conducted, according to the interlocutors of the publication, negotiations about the merger with Fiat Chrysler two or three years ago, but the proposal was rejected because of the opposition of the French government.

The newspaper notes that such a strategy testifies “about return of Renault to the bold plans supported by the former head of alliance Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance, Carlos Ghosn, detained in Japan on the suspicion of tax crimes. The purpose of such mergers is to unite business in the struggle for world domination with such companies as Volkswagen and Toyota Motor, the article says.
