April 15, Fineko/abc.az. The European Union countries have given the mandate to the European Commission (EC) to conduct official trade negotiations with the United States, says EU Council’s statement, released in Brussels on Monday.

"Today, the Council approved the mandate of the European Commission to start negotiations with the U.S. on two agreements: on the trade agreement on the abolition of customs duties only on industrial goods, excluding agricultural products and on the agreement on conformity assessment, the purpose of which will be the elimination of non-tariff barriers, as a result of which it will be easier for companies to prove that their products meet the technical requirements both in the EU and in the U.S., while maintaining a high level of protection in the EU," the statement says.
