German authorities fined Facebook for €2 million

July 3, Fineko/abc.az. German authorities have fined Facebook Ireland Limited for €2 million ($2.3 million) in accord with the German network legislation.

According to foreign media, the Company undertook making an annual report in German on the consideration of complaints against illegal publications.

The submitted report from July 2018 turned out incomplete, and it does not reflect all the complaints. It does not provide a "complete, transparent picture of the organization and the course of processing of complaints on the occasion of illegal publications."

Facebook’s report for the 1st half of 2018 does not reflect the actual number of complaints about illegal content, which in Germany includes anti-Semitic materials that incite hostility against groups of people on religious or ethnic grounds.

The report also provides incomplete information on the language skills and training of staff involved in handling complaints from users of the social network.

The decision has not yet entered into force, and the Company has the right to appeal it.
