Sheki Khans’ Palace and Sheki Historical Center included in UNESCO Cultural Heritage List

July 8, Fineko/abc.az. The Sheki Historical Center and the Sheki Khans’ Palace have been included in the UNESCO Cultural Heritage List.

At the 43rd session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee held in Baku the Sheki Khans’ Palace and the Sheki Historical Center have been recognized as UNESCO cultural heritage.

The 43rd session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee began its work in Baku on 30 June. The involved about 2,500 representatives from more than 180 countries.

The Sheki Khans’ Palace and Sheki Historical Center became the third monument of Azerbaijan included in the list of this organization. Prior to that, the List included the Old Fortress in Baku with the Shirvanshahs’ Palace and the Maiden’s Tower, as well as the Gobustan Rock Art Cultural Landscape of the Gobustan National Park.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev congratulated the Azerbaijani people on the occasion of inclusion of the Sheki Historical Center together with the Sheki Khans’ Palace in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
