Russian leader Vladimir Putin signs a law on Caspian legal status

October 1, Fineko/abc.az. Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a federal law on ratification of the Convention on the legal status of the Caspian Sea signed in Aktau in 2018.

The document was ratified in the State Duma on 19 September and then in the Federation Council. The Convention regulates the matters of navigation in the Caspian Sea, the collective use of the Caspian, the definition of the boundaries of territorial waters and fishing zones, the division of the Caspian seabed, the laying of submarine cables and pipelines, etc. In addition, the Convention prohibits the deployment of armed forces in the Caspian Sea, that do not belong to the littoral countries of the basin.
