Star refinery has processed 4.5 million tons of crude to date

October 10, Fineko/abc.az. The Izmir-based refinery Star, owned by SOCAR, began operating at full capacity from the end of this September. So far, the plant has refined 4.5 million tons of crude oil.

The relevant statement was made at the 10 October media conference by refinery’s general director Mesut Ilter.

He noted that by the end of 2019 it is planned to increase this figure up to 8 million tons. Such products as diesel, jet fuel, LPG, petroleum coke are also brought to the market.

"Last month SOCAR Aviation won a tender for 700,000 tons of fuel announced by the Istanbul airport. The main part of aviation fuel produced at Star refinery will be supplied to the Istanbul airport. Other airports are expected to be among Star's customers as well. The annual demand for aviation fuel in Turkey is about 5 million tons. With the expansion of the tourism sector and the emergence of such a large consumer as the Istanbul airport, this demand is expected to grow up to 6-6.5 million tons. But thanks to the introduction of 1.6 million tons of fuel into the market, in 7-8 years Turkey will not probably have a need to import aviation fuel," Ilter emphasized.
