Cause of decline in tobacco production unveiled

January 27, Fineko/abc.az. Azerbaijan gathered 6,000 tons of tobacco last year, ABC.AZ reports with reference to the State Statistics Committee. Compared with 2018, tobacco production decreased by 4.4%.

So, in 2019 tobacco was planted on an area of 3,100 hectares.

According to the SSC, fall in production is linked with decrease in the area under cultivation for tobacco by 200 hectares. Last year tobacco yield grew up to 19.3 centners per hectare.

It should be noted that in 2018 the country gathered 6,300 tons of tobacco from 3,300 hectares of the area and the yield totaled 19 quintals per hectare.
