February 6, Fineko/abc.az. Georgia started meeting the demand for electricity at the expense of Azerbaijan from the end of January, reports the Georgian Electricity Market Operator (ESCO).

It was noted that Georgia mainly met the demand for electricity from Azerbaijan and Russia. However, since the water level at the Inguri Hydroelectric Power Station has decreased since 1 February the electricity received from Russia was sent only to Abkhazia. That is why Georgia has been buying electricity only from Azerbaijan in the last few days.

Georgia receives 7.3-7.4 million kWh of electricity from Azerbaijan every day.

The Inguri Hydroelectric Power Station is the most powerful hydroelectric power station in Georgia. Its production capacity is 1,300 MW. The station's hydroelectric units are located in Abkhazia, and the reservoir and dam are located on the territory of Georgia. After a territorial dispute that arose in 1993, the parties use the electricity generated at the station on the basis of general agreement. 60% of electricity generated was transferred to Georgia and 40% to Abkhazia.
