January 16, Fineko/abc.az. Bulgaria hopes to address the problem of environmental pollution through cooperation with the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR).

Prime Minister of Bulgaria Boyko Borisov said at a press conference by results of his visit to Baku that only 3% of the territory of Bulgaria is gasified.

"At the same time, we can note that in recent days, especially in winter, the air is polluted, and the reason is connected not with industrial production and vehicles, but using wood and coal as fuel in everyday life. We would like to use such household fuel, which would not be hamful for the environment," Borisov said.

According to him, neighbor Georgia is gasified with the support of SOCAR and thanks to the supplies of Azerbaijani gas, and Bulgaria has long considered two options for its gasification.

"We hope that in June, the construction of an interconnect will begin in Greece, and in July it will start working on the border with Turkey. I would like to note that our company and SOCAR have found a solution to the issue of delivery of 1 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas at favorable prices. If we achieve gasification of our country, we will be able to provide gas supply to socially unprotected strata of the population who will no longer use wood and coal," Borisov said.

According to him, a plan on the number and timing of this work will be developed with participation of the ministers of energy and economy of both countries, since the Azerbaijani side offers the most favorable gas supply prices.
