President Ilham Aliyev: Following WHO recommendations, we`ll also open borders

17:51 - 30.06.2020

June 30, Fineko/abc.az. During the pandemic many countries of the world, including Azerbaijan, closed their borders.

ABC.AZ reports that President Ilham Aliyev made such a statement at a videoconference with UNWTO Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili.

The head of state noted that our borders are still closed, but they are only open for Azerbaijani citizens who want to return to their homeland, and for foreigners who want to leave Azerbaijan: "This is due to the fact that we, first of all, think about the safety, health of people, their lives. Of course, given that the virus was imported in Azerbaijan from outside, we believe that the only correct way at this stage is to close the borders. But at the same time, we hope that as the pandemic weakens, including following the recommendations of the World Health Organization, with which we are working closely, we’ll also open borders. It is difficult to say when this will happen. But, as it happens, of course, your recommendations for the restoration of the tourism sector will be very much in demand."
