August 5, Fineko/abc.az. The new draft amendments to the Law on Unemployment Insurance are aimed at strengthening social protection of the unemployed and expanding the coverage of unemployment insurance payments.

In accordance with the current legislation, unemployment insurance benefits are paid to persons who are registered as unemployed, whose employment contract was terminated due to the liquidation of a state body or legal entity, the number of employees or layoffs, and who have at least 3 years of insurance experience.

ABC.AZ was informed at the Ministry of Labor & Social Protection that the new amending document proposes to reduce the insurance experience for those individuals from 3 to 1 year.

In addition, as one of the important points of the project, it is proposed to provide insurance payments to those whose employment contracts were terminated due to the expiration of their fixed-term employment contracts. According to the proposal, in this case, the person must have at least 3 years of continuous work experience under a fixed-term employment contract. Insurance compensation is provided in the amount of the minimum wage and for 3 months.

If the draft law is adopted, up to 35,000-40,000 unemployed people will be attracted to the insurance payment within a year.
