ABC.AZ reports that such a statement was made by Turkish Minister of National Defence Hulusi Akar on 13 August at a reception with President Ilham Aliyev.

The minister said: "There has always been cooperation between the Turkish Armed Forces and the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, not just today. With the development of relationships with Turkey, which was the first to recognize the independence of Azerbaijan in 1991, the relationships between our armies also began to develop. For example, we have framework military agreements, agreements on cooperation in the field of military education, and cooperation in the defense industry. As a logical result of all this, we have an agreement on strategic cooperation signed in 2010. Thus, within the framework of these agreements, our trips, contacts, and joint presence at exercises are quite natural activities. So far, we have done everything necessary for the sovereignty, independence and security of our countries, and we will continue to do so."
