Expert: COVID-19 made insurers to review health insurance products

12:24 - 9.09.2020

September 9, Fineko/abc.az. Research shows that before the coronavirus pandemic, only 10% of people displayed an interest to the presence of infectious and "pandemic" diseases in their health insurance packages, and now this percentage has increased by about 70%.

That is, already 70 out of every 100 people consider health insurance necessary to fight unexpected diseases such as COVID-19.

ABC.AZ was made such a statement by expert Khayal Mammadkhanli, when the latter commented on the situation in the insurance sector.

He noted that at the same time, insurance companies have started creating new products, suggesting that such viruses may become the new global norm after the bankruptcy of many businesses during the COVID-19 crisis.

According to Mammadkhanli, although the new "pandemic-resistant" insurance guarantees are not cheap, they give businesses a chance to insure against the following similar shocks and losses: "COVID-19 has induced the domestic insurance companies to review their health insurance products. Companies have taken some steps: if the first step was to exclude pandemics altogether, the second step was to change the prices and terms of existing insurance products covered by the pandemic. The third step was characterized by the creation of completely new COVID-19 medical products. If the majority of insurance companies in our country "kept silent" in connection with this issue, then some leading companies have taken new marketing steps with COVID-19 insurance and tried to attract new customers."
