Azerbaijani President: Mainly social projects to be realized within investment program for this year

January 30, Fineko/abc.az. The Azerbaijani population has increased by 1.5 million people for the last 14 years.

Addressing to the conference devoted the 4th year of the State Program on Socio-Economic Development of Regions for 2014-2018, President Ilham Aliyev stated that the population growth is closely linked with general economic development.

"The increasing population simultaneously requires adequate economic growth. For the past 14 years our country has created 1.4 million jobs, of which 1.4 million are permanent. At the same time, the population grew by 1.5 million people. That is why creation of jobs should become an ongoing process in Azerbaijan. Given the current high pace of technological development in the world, and the fact that this also leads to job cuts, we should pay great attention to this sector to ensure the constant low level of unemployment. Also, as a result of work done, unemployment in Azerbaijan is at the level of 5% and the poverty at 5.4%. When Azerbaijan launched the first socio-economic program, the poverty rate made up 50%," the head of state said.

According to country’s leader, much attention was also paid to the social sphere. For the last 14 years wages have increased more than 5-fold and pensions by over 8 times and many important social projects have been realized. More than 3,100 schools, 642 medical institutions, 43 Olympic sports complexes have been constructed or repaired. Those projects also demand large financing. But they have social orientation, so they are always included in the investment program. Numerous social projects will be mainly implemented within this year’s investment program.
