Azerbaijan`s leader: Armenia thought that relying on world’s leader states, it would be able to occupy our territories forever

October 27, Fineko/abc.az. President Ilham Aliyev gave an interview to Italian TV channel Rai-1.

ABC.AZ reports that the head of state also touched upon the role of Italy in the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

"As for the model that exists in Italy, we have studied it. We also studied the model of the Aland Islands and other successful experiences of autonomous regions. Azerbaijan is a multi-ethnic state, unlike Armenia, where 99% of the population is Armenian. This is why this is a very positive experience of self-government, which could be applied in our case. And by the way, as far as I know, such proposals were made in the mid-90s. Even groups of representatives of NGOs and political scientists visited your country, the region you are talking about, and the Aland Islands. But Armenia has always rejected this flatly. They thought they could occupy our territories forever, relying on the military, political, and economic support of the leading countries of the world, but they grossly miscalculated. And today we are proving our case on the battlefield. We are implementing UN Security Council’s resolutions, and we are restoring international law," the president said.
