Azerbaijan and Austria discussed a possibility of cargo transportation by Baku-Tbilisi-Kars rail from China to Europe and back

February 21, Fineko/abc.az. Azerbaijani Railways’ (ADY) chair Javid Gurbanov and Austrian Railways’ CEO Andreas Mattha have met in Vienna.

ADY informs that the parties covered the possibility of transportation of goods via railway line Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway from China to Europe and back.

"Central Asian countries, including Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, China and India have shown particular interest to the project. By means of this railway route running through Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey, and then with the subsequent connection of the Trans-European and Trans-Asian railway networks, goods and passengers get an opportunity to move freely from Asia to Europe and in the opposite direction. That will serve to growth of the transit potential of the region’s countries," Gurbanov emphasized.

In his turn, Mr. Mattha highly appreciated the strengthening of Azerbaijan’s transport & logistics potential and the work done by the Azerbaijani side for launch of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line and the creation of other international transport corridors.

"During the meeting a decision was made to expand further bilateral cooperation," ADY reported.
