Surplus to increase due to current operations over 8-fold in 2021

December 22, Fineko/abc.az. Azerbaijan's current operating account surplus is expected to reach $104.8 million in 2021, or 0.2% of the projected GDP.

ABC.AZ reports that this is reflected in the Concept & Projected Indicators of Economic & Social Development of Azerbaijan for 2021 & the Next 3 Years, included in the 2021 budget package.

According to the long-term forecast, the country's current operating account surplus is expected to increase by 8.1 times in 2022 and reach $847.9 million or 1.8% of GDP, in 2023 - $1.95 bn (3.8% of GDP), and in 2024 – $2.408 bn (4.5% of GDP).

As for actual indicators, according to CBA’s new report, for Jan-Sept 2020 the current operating account deficit of Azerbaijan amounted to $208.3 million, or 0.7% of GDP. In 2019, the surplus was $4.364 bn, or 9.1% of GDP.
