February 4, Fineko/abc.az. 1,147,834 people applied last year to central hospitals and their structural divisions, as well as to medical and diagnostic centers operating in 23 administrative territories where mandatory health insurance is applied. As a whole, 4,170,432 appeals were made.

ABC.AZ reports that Zaur Aliyev, the chairman of board of the State Mandatory Health Insurance Agency, said this at a press conference following the results of last year.

He noted that the increased accessibility of citizens to medical services as a result of the introduction of compulsory health insurance has also affected the total number of calls for emergency medical care:

"So, in 2020, compared with 2019, the number of calls for emergency medical care increased by 82%. In 23 cities and districts, measures were taken to improve the supply of medicines and medical supplies to medical institutions. The range of medicines increased from 126 to 334 items, and the number of medical services from 116 to 296 items.

By 2021, it is planned to expand the list of essential medicines that meet the needs of hospitals."
