March 9, Fineko/abc.az. "The banking sector of Azerbaijan has significant capital and liquidity buffers, and the volume of problem loans is declining," says Natalia Tamiris, the head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission to Azerbaijan.

According to Tamiris, it is still unclear how the Covid-19 pandemic and related economic shocks will affect the quality of bank loans in the future: "During the pandemic, most loans were restructured, and their performance in the coming years remains uncertain."

As of 31 January 2021 the volume of overdue loans in Azerbaijan amounted to AZN 900.4 million. Over the last month this indicator increased by 0.8%, while year-on-year indicator decreased by 31.1%, and their share in the total amount of loans was 6.2%.
