Tbilisi hosts Coordination Council on Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project

March 5, Fineko/abc.az. A meeting of the Coordinating Council for the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project was held in Tbilisi.

The Azerbaijani Railways (ADY) reports that during the meeting the first vice-premier of Georgia, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Dmitry Kumshishvili spoke about the economic, political and cultural ties between the two countries and stressed that Baku-Tbilisi-Kars and other regional projects play an important role in the development of bilateral relations.

Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan, chairman of the coordination council for transit and cargo transportation Shahin Mustafayev, in turn, noted that Baku-Tbilisi-Kars and other projects implemented jointly by Azerbaijan and Georgia serve to improve the welfare of the two nations.

"Baku-Tbilisi-Kars and other projects will play an important role in the development of not only the South Caucasus, but also Europe, its connection with Asia," he added.

During the meeting, the sides discussed the reconstruction and construction of the railway from Marabda to the Turkish border, the Marabda-Kartsakhi railway budget for 2018, new reconstruction works along the Marabda-Turkey railway, the construction of a new infrastructure along the Akhalkalaki- Kartsakhi, as well as the implementation of the decisions of the Coordination Council and other issues.

From the Azerbaijani side, the meeting was attended by chairman of the Azerbaijan Railways Javid Gurbanov, executive director of the State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan (SOFAZ) Shahmar Movsumov, officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Finance, the Azerbaijani ambassador to Georgia Dursun Hasanov and other officials.
